Configuring and Testing Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) on Basis of Cisco Hardware and
Linux Gentoo with Quagga Package (Zebra). In the article the principles of work of the dynamic routing protocol "BGP" are discussed in
details. Instructions for configuring Cisco routers and the Quagga package on basis of Linux Gentoo are given.
-
Setting Up a Hotspot (Public Wireless Internet Access). Basic principles of network
architecture and service accounting in wireless networks using ISP billing system NetUP UTM are described. Settings for Linux -based PC
routers, MikroTik, D-Link and Nomadix are given.
-
Configuring PPPoE Server & Client. Setting up network access via PPPoE by the example of
rp-pppoe server and raspppoe client is described.

-
Setting RADIUS Attributes by the Example of VPN Connection Bandwidth Limitation. Setting
up a Cisco access server for VPN connection bandwidth limitation is described.
-
Management of Services of the Billing System "UTM 5" in Solaris 10 OS. Management of services
using System Management Facility (SMF) is described. This subsystem is available in Solaris 10 OS and allows better controlling start and stop of
services. Advantages of the subsystem for service management are outlined, examples of integration of MySQL, PostgreSQL and NetUP UTM5 with the
subsystem for Solaris 10 process management are given.
-
Why Choose Real Time Billing? The objective of the article is to give a glance at advantages of real time
billing over batch billing, principles of work of real time ISP billing systems & prepaid billing, and the outlook for real-time service accounting
systems.
-
Description of UTM Modules. Brief description of ISP billing system NetUP UTM5 architecture
and extra modules.
-
Basic Billing Solutions. Brief article concerned with basic ISP billing solutions that may be realized with the
use of ISP billing system NetUP UTM5; service accounting, tariffing and billing with or without use of authorization and Network Access Servers
(NAS) is discussed.
-
UTM 5: DynaShape Module, developed by NetUP, is the module for dynamic bandwidth limitation (dynamic shaping). This module
allows changing a subscriber’s bandwidth depending on the volume of traffic downloaded by the subscruber. DynaShape makes flat-rate Internet access service
more flexible and profitable for an ISP.

Setting Up a Fault-Tolerant Cluster for the ISP Billing System "UTM5" on Basis of Linux Gentoo. In
the article a problem of setting up a fault-tolerant cluster on basis of two physical servers for the ISP billing system "UTM5" is discussed. Use of
the fault-tolerant cluster increases reliability of data storage and quality of services provided, essentially decreases down time and allows performing
preventive maintenance or reparation without interruptions in rendering of services. For setting up the cluster, no extra hardware is required; this makes
the solution available to all. As the operating system it is used Linux Gentoo. Database management system used is MySQL.
NetUP Linux Live CD. Our specialists have created a unique product: a bootable CD packed with features to help you to build a
production ready Internet server with minimal effort. No previous experience with UNIX-like operating systems is required, all configuration tasks including
hardware, system, network, and multimedia settings are performed on-the-fly thanks to the underlying Knoppix Linux distribution.
-
Increasing Performance of the Billing System. Settings that allow increasing performance of the ISP billing
system in networks with heavy traffic, and results of testing of NetUP UTM5 performance are given.
-
Collection of traffic data via Netflow protocol on a Cisco router when NAT is used is a complicated
task as while on the internal interface it is collected data on outgoing traffic, on external interface statistics for traffic coming from the Internet to
an external router IP address. Thus, Netflow stream doesn't contain information on data transmitted towards a client.
-
Configuring NetUP UTM and a Cisco router to work with NetFlow. Networking equipment and NetUP UTM
complex settings for traffic accounting using Netflow data coming from a router.
-
Configuring NAT at Mikrotik OS and UTM5 billing system. The article is concerned with setting
up an Internet access server on basis of MikroTik RouterOS. [pdf]
-
Traffic Accounting Using RADIUS Stop Packets. In case a NAS doesn’t support statistics
exporting via Netflow protocol then data on consumed traffic may be extracted from RADIUS Accounting-Stop packets. In this brief article configuration of UTM
for using RADIUS accounting is described. [pdf]
-
NetUP Data Stream Accounting Daemon (NDSAD). NDSAD is a Netflow traffic probe that may be installed
on a PC-based router. Developed by NetUP originally, NDSAD is an open-source (GPL'ed) tool that captures packets and generates a Netflow (v5) accounting
stream. It may be used along with the ISP billing system "UTM 5" or with any other Netflow analyzing system. [pdf]
